Through research, legislation, and corporate engagement, Dr. Geter leads national efforts at the Black Women's Health Imperative to decrease health disparities and the impact of racism on Black women’s health. She was the first-ever Chief Health Officer for the City of Atlanta. She led the COVID-19 prevention, surveillance, and preparedness efforts for the Mayor’s Pandemic Coordination Team. Her leadership resulted in a multi-million dollar partnership to establish COVID-19 testing and treatment services for Atlanta residents and the development of the City of Atlanta's COVID-19 surveillance dashboard.
As a 15-year public health expert, she has co-authored more than 30 peer-reviewed articles on HIV racial and ethnic disparities in the South, and her research has been used to advance national policies, programs, and interventions. She earned her DrPH in health behavior with a minor in biostatistics from the University of Kentucky and her MPH in behavioral sciences and health education from Emory University. Dr. Geter completed her post-doctoral training at Morehouse School of Medicine and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
