Informal Conversation on Health Literacy

Tuesday March 26, 2019 at 03:30 PM

40-80% of information shared in exams rooms with patients is misunderstood or not remembered. Addressing health literacy* issues is a critical component in creating a truly patient- and family-centered system of care and improving health outcomes. IPFCC is inviting everyone to discuss and explore ways different organizations are working to address this challenge. How are patient and family advisors (PFA) partnering in these efforts? How have PFAs improved our understanding of the lived experience of receiving and acting on information provided?

*Health literacy: The degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions

These informal conversations are participatory in nature, building on the experience and strengths of those who join the call. There will not be a presentation but rather let the discussion be guided by what the participants want to learn more about through the sharing of our collective experiences. Come join the conversation to learn from others and to share your successes and challenges. Mary Minniti, Senior Policy and Program Specialist, will facilitate this discussion.

If you are interested but unable to attend live, we still encourage you to register because all registrants will receive a link to the recording of the discussion after the event. The recording and any resources will also be posted in PFCC.Connect for all members to watch and/or refer back to. If you have further questions, please contact Annette Lee at alee@ipfcc.org or Mary Minniti at mminniti@ipfcc.org
