In this position, White-Faines leads the AOA’s strategic agenda, supporting the organization’s physician and student members by promoting public health and advancing research; serving as the accrediting agency for osteopathic medical schools; and provider of physician specialty board certification; and continuing medical education. read more

These responsibilities build on those in Dr. Miller’s prior role as Chief Strategy Officer of Well Being Trust, through which he ensured alignment across the foundation’s grants, research, partnerships and policy recommendations. read more
Consumer advocate and co-founder, X4 Health
Christine Bechtel is a longtime consumer advocate and the co-founder of X4 Health, a purpose-driven organization that uses social impact design to solve problems that matter. 3rd Conversation is one of X4’s programs. Christine has been involved with PCC since its earliest days, having co-chaired a number of PCMH-related working groups. She helped facilitate the development of the Shared Principles of Primary Care across 300 stakeholders on behalf of the PCC. She also spent 18 months working with a primary care practice where she helped its leaders establish a culture of patient- and family-centered care and professional satisfaction. Christine’s previous positions include leadership roles at the National Partnership for Women & Families, the eHealth Initiative, the American Health Quality Association, and AARP.

Christopher Koller is president of the Milbank Memorial Fund. The Fund is a 114 year operating foundation that improves population health by connecting leaders with the best information and experience. Before joining the Fund, he served the state of Rhode Island as the country’s first health insurance commissioner, an appointment he held from March of 2005 through June of 2013. Under Mr. Koller’s leadership, the RI Office of the Health Insurance Commissioner was nationally recognized for its rate review process and its efforts to use insurance regulation to promote payment reform, primary care revitalization, and delivery system transformation. Prior to Todd Strategy, Mr. Todd was a Senior Healthcare Counsel for the Republican staff of the Senate Finance Committee, the Committee of jurisdiction for the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Dominic Mack, M.D., M.B.A currently serves as director of the Morehouse School of Medicine’s National Center for Primary Care (NCPC), the nation’s first congressionally sanctioned center to develop programs that strengthen the primary care system for health equity and sustainability. Dr. Mack, a family physician is a longtime proponent of electronic health records. read more

Douglas Henley, MD, FAAFP is Chair of PCPCC's Board and Executive Vice President and CEO of the American Academy of Family Physicians, which represents more than 120,000 physicians and medical students nationwide. Prior to AAFP, Dr. Henley was in private practice for 20 years in his hometown of Hope Mills, NC. He is a founding member of the Ambulatory Care Quality Alliance Steering Committee and serves on the steering committee of the Center for Payment Reform. Henley served as a commissioner on the American Health Information Community. In this capacity he served as co-chair of the Personalized Healthcare Workgroup. Elizabeth Fowler is the Deputy Administrator and Director of CMS Innovation Center. Liz previously served as Executive Vice President of programs at The Commonwealth Fund and Vice President for Global Health Policy at Johnson & Johnson. Prior to that was special assistant to President Obama on health care and economic policy at the National Economic Council. And in 2008-2010, she was Chief Health Counsel to Senate Finance Committee Chair, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), where she played a critical role developing the Senate version of the Affordable Care Act. read more

Jill Hummel currently serves as the President & General Manager of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut (Anthem). In this role she is responsible for the management of Anthem’s local Commercial group and individual business, including sales, account management, provider relations and contracting, underwriting and product delivery. She is also responsible for the development of Anthem’s long-term strategic direction and collaborates with elected officials, regulators, providers, employers and other key stakeholders to drive improvements in health care access, quality, experience, outcomes and affordability. read more

Laura Sessums, MD, JD, is the Chief Care Transformation, Medical Director at Anthem since 2019. In 2013, she joined the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) as the Director of the Division of Advanced Primary Care. At CMMI, she oversees the Comprehensive Primary Care (CPC) and CPC+ initiatives. Previously, she worked in academic medicine as a clinician-educator, mostly at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (as a civilian), where she served as the Chief of the General Medicine Section. Her professional activities have been in the areas of healthcare policy and advocacy, medical education, senior medical administrative leadership, and scholarship at the intersection of law and medicine. Marie Brown, MD is an internist practicing in Oak Park, IL. She has a special interest in treating diabetes, medication adherence, hypertension, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related issues.
She has practiced in Oak Park for over 20 yrs. As her patient’s personal physician, she views herself as their advocate, adviser and health-care partner. In addition to her practice she is active in several national organizations, publishes in the medical literature on diabetes and medication adherence and speaks across the country as an educator to other physicians. read more

Maryjoan D. Ladden, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a nurse practitioner whose work has focused on improving health care quality and safety through health professional collaboration.
Her work at the Foundation focuses on several critical areas in nursing in New Jersey and nationally: faculty recruitment and education to increase the capacity of nursing programs; developing collaborative partnerships to address local nursing issues; creating the next generation of academic nurse leaders; and building senior executive leaders in nursing. At just twenty-eight years old and as a first-time-mom-to-be, Melissa Thomason, a former public school teacher, suffered a Type I aortic dissection in October 2008. Melissa survived her first open-heart surgery that day and two more in the year that followed. She was diagnosed with a rare connective tissue disorder, Loeys Dietz Syndrome, that same year. After discovering that no one on her healthcare team had even heard of LDS, the passionate teacher very quickly became her own best advocate and a champion for Patient Engagement. Robert Berenson joined the Urban Institute as an Institute fellow in 2003. In this position he conducts research and provides policy analysis primarily on health care delivery issues, particularly related to Medicare payment policy, pricing power in commercial insurance markets, and new forms of health delivery based on reinvigorated primary care practices.
In 2012, Berenson completed a three-year term on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, the last two years as vice chair. From 1998 to 2000, he was in charge of Medicare payment policy and private health plan contracting in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Previously, he served as an assistant director of the White House Domestic Policy Staff under President Carter. read more

Rodney is a veteran health care policy professional with more than 20 years of experience working with the US Congress, where he served as health policy advisor and as Acting Health Policy Director for Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa and, earlier, on the staff of former US Representative Charlie Norwood of Georgia.
During his years with Representative Norwood, Rodney managed the Patients’ Bill of Rights, which passed the House in 1999 and 2001. In February 2005, Rodney left the office of Congressman Norwood to join the Finance Committee Staff as a health policy advisor to Chairman Grassley. In that capacity, he was lead Senate staffer for the Medicaid provisions of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 and the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006. read more

Susan Dentzer is one of the nation’s most respected health policy experts and thought leaders who, as of mid-March 2016, leads The Network for Excellence in Health Innovation, with offices in Washington, DC, Cambridge, MA, and San Francisco, CA. A longtime journalist, she has been on-air analyst on health issues with the PBS NewsHour and a regular commentator on health policy for National Public Radio. She wrote and hosted the 2015 PBS documentary, "Reinventing American Healthcare," focusing on the innovations pioneered by the Geisinger Health System and spread to health systems across the nation.
