About half of American adults said they or members of their households delayed medical care because of the pandemic in its early days. Radiologists and other physicians saw preventive screenings for breast and cervical cancer drop by 94 percent last spring, and for colon cancer, by 86 percent. Many patients feared for their safety, and others, as unemployment skyrocketed, lost their health insurance.
