The Organization began in 1942 as New Orleans' first multi-specialty group practice founded by 5 entrepreneurial surgeons and evolved to become the region’s largest, not-for-profit, high-performing health care delivery system with 1,000 employed physicians, 12 hospitals, 16,000 employees, and 50 clinics. Over 400,000 patients come to the Organization annually from all 50 states and 90 countries to seek care from talented physicians and in more than 90 medical specialties and subspecialties.

Given the mandates of the Accountable Care Act, reimbursement complexities, Health IT vendor challenges, broadband access, etc., this supportive network is vital to the health of rural hospitals.
