Dr. Day graduated from Harvard University and attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and went on to obtain a Masters in Public Health at Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Day returned to the University of Pennsylvania as director of the primary care residency track. She subsequently served as Vice President of General Internal Medicine at the American Board of Internal Medicine for almost 10 years and more recently as a Director of the ABIM. She is currently the ABIM representative on the American Board of Family Medicine. While a Director of the ABIM, she was involved on a national level with efforts to define the role of the future internist and advance incorporation of practice improvement into the certification processDr Day has a background both practicing and overseeing practice operations. She spent several years in private practice in Mount Airy, during which time she was Medical Director for Community Health and Integrated Services at Chestnut Hill Hospital. Since her return to Penn in 2001, she has continued to be active seeing patients, while expanding her leadership role in the general internal medicine practices. Since 2008, she has been the lead for the Edward S Cooper practice team in the Southeast Pennsylvania Chronic Care Learning Collaborative Medicine, a patient centered medical home (PCMH) demonstration project. Since 2009, she has been Director of Ambulatory Quality and Practice Improvement for the Division of General Internal Medicine, during which time the Division has received four UPHS Quality and Patient Safety Awards, and all four DGIM practices have received the highest level recognition as NCQA Patient Centered Medical Homes.
