Karla joined PCDC in 2011 and leads PCDC’s Clinical and Training Initiatives. A clinician, healthcare advocate and trainer, Karla has been in the healthcare field for over 15 years and has extensive on‐the‐ground experience providing primary care in medically underserved areas. At PCDC she has led major projects including the development, writing, and piloting of the Care Coordination Fundamentals course created in partnership with 1199SEIU, the Team-Based Care in the Patient Centered Medical Home course and the Crescent City Beacon Chronic Disease Improvement Initiative. Previously, Karla was the Director of Clinical Services at Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic where she oversaw the delivery of healthcare services in twelve centers. A registered nurse, and certified nurse midwife, she worked for many years as a clinician providing care for patients in community health centers in the South Bronx and Washington Heights, NYC. At Planned Parenthood New York City she led a groundbreaking reproductive rights initiative to increase access to reproductive health services for women in medically underserved areas.
