James Schuster, MD, MBA is the Associate Chief Medical Officer and the Senior VP for Medical and Behavioral Services for the UPMC Insurance Division where he has served in leadership roles for over 2 decades. He has led teams based at the UPMC Center for High Value Healthcare that have secured several awards from the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute and other funders focused on integrated care, shared decision making, and medication assisted treatment. In September 2020 he was appointed to the PCORI Board of Governors. Dr. Schuster completed his medical education at the University of Louisville, his residency in psychiatry and MBA at the University of Pittsburgh and is a Clinical Professor in the University of Pittsburgh Department of Psychiatry. He is board certified in psychiatry and in the subspecialties of geriatric psychiatry and addiction psychiatry.
