David Hebert is the Chief Executive Officer of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and serves as a non-voting member of the AANP Board of Directors. Previously he served as the CEO of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), prior to the merger of the two organizations. Before working on behalf of the nurse practitioners, he was president of his own government relations firm -- the DEH Group, LLC where he represented a variety of clients on health care and housing issues. Prior to the DEH Group, he served as Senior Vice President, Policy & Government Relations for the American Health Care Association (AHCA).
Hebert previously served as Counsel at Alston & Bird, LLP where he worked in the health care group of former Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Tom Scully where he focused on legislative and regulatory issues in health care.
Hebert was previously Chief of Staff for Senator Roy Blunt when Blunt was House Majority Whip. Hebert was twice named byRoll Call to its list of “Fabulous 50 Movers & Shakers Behind the Scenes on Capitol Hill.” Prior to his work on Capitol Hill, Hebert directed the Washington government affairs office of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). He also served as an Adjunct Professor in the Liberal Studies Program at Georgetown University. Previously he was Counsel, Government Affairs for the National Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors (NAIFA).
Hebert received his juris doctorate from Pepperdine University in 1982, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oregon. Hebert also did post-graduate studies in Salzburg, Austria, and clerked in Copenhagen for a Danish law firm, as well as the California Department of Justice, Business & Tax Division. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and in the District of Columbia.
