Rolling Up Our Sleeves: The Effort to Vaccinate Americans

As millions of people across the country roll up their sleeves to receive COVID-19 shots, many sectors are also rolling up their sleeves and getting to work in this massive undertaking. Primary care has very much been in the mix—answering patient questions, helping to overcome vaccine hesitancy and beginning to administer the vaccines. We have the experience, assets and skills to help meet the country’s vaccine goals. But for widespread immunity to happen rapidly and efficiently, it will take coordination and cooperation by primary care and other sectors. And there are many challenges, requirements and considerations, from patient concerns about the vaccine, to differences in vaccine effectiveness, to data collection and sharing, and more recently, issues related to virus mutations. In this webinar, four experts will provide different perspectives on the role of primary care and other sectors as the distribution of the vaccines ramps up.

David Fairchild, MD, MPH

Dr. Fairchild joined CVS Health in 2019 as the Chief Medical Officer for MinuteClinic and Senior Vice President and Associate CMO within the CVS Health enterprise. In the preceding four years, he was a Director at BDC Advisors, where he led the consulting firm’s physician enterprise strategy practice. Prior to joining BDC Advisors, Dr. Fairchild held various academic medicine positions, most recently serving as Senior Vice President for Clinical Integration at UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC), President of the UMass Memorial Accountable Care Organization, and Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Before working at UMMHC, he was Chief Medical Officer at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and Associate Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. read more

J. Lloyd Michener, MD is Emeritus Professor and Chair of Family Medicine and Community Health at Duke School of Medicine and Adjunct Professor, UNC Gillings School of Public Health. He also serves as Chair of the Board of the Foundation for Health Leadership and Innovation and is a member of the National Academies of Medicine Workgroup on Assessing Meaningful Community Engagement. He has served as Director of the “Practical Playbook”, with the support of the deBeaumont Foundation, CDC and HRSA, linking health care, public health and communities.
