Overview:

This session will deliver an overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and a brief summary of the evidence that supports the method.  The communication style and key skills used in MI will be presented.  Participants will have the opportunity to observe a brief video presentation of MI in action.

Participants at the end of the presentation will be able to:

  1. State the most current definition of Motivational Interviewing (MI).
  2. Describe the state of the evidence base supporting MI.
  3. List the key components of the MI communication style and the skills used in conversations about change.
