Mark Savage serves as Director of Health IT Policy and Programs at the National Partnership for Women & Families, one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations working to promote workplace fairness, access to high‑quality, affordable health care, and policies that help women and men meet the dual demands of work and family.
As Director, Mark oversees the National Partnership’s HIT strategy and work, because health IT and exchange are the necessary backbone for delivery reform, patient engagement, quality measurement, and big data for population health. This work includes policy development for patients and families throughout the Meaningful Use program and related initiatives at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and the White House; but the work and strategy reach more broadly as well and include initiatives to reduce health disparities and to advance person-centered health and care planning. The National Partnership also leads the Consumer Partnership for eHealth, a coalition of approximately 50 consumer, patient and labor organizations working hard at state and national levels since 2005 to advance patient-centered health IT.
Mark also serves on the HIT Policy Committee's Consumer Empowerment Workgroup; on the NCVHS's Work Group on HHS Data Access and Use; and as co-chair of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights' Health Care Task Force, among others. Prior to joining the National Partnership, he was Senior Attorney at Consumers Union, the policy and advocacy arm of Consumer Reports, where he led advocacy for patients and consumers in California’s work to build electronic health information exchange under the HITECH Act. Before that, he was President and Managing Attorney at Public Advocates, one of the nation’s oldest, leading civil –rights law firms, using impact litigation and other strategies to fight the systemic causes and effects of poverty and discrimination in California.
