COL (Dr.) George Patrin received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1984 after almost ten years as a paramedic saving lives on the streets of Hennepin County in Minneapolis, MN. He subsequently completed a Pediatrics Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center at Ft. Lewis, WA, is Pediatrics Board certified and fellowship trained in family advocacy and child abuse. Dr. Patrin’s Army career has placed him as the European Regional Medical Command (ERMC) Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) Medical Director (1996-1998) and Medical Director of TRICARE-Europe (2003-2005). He has been deployed as Battalion Surgeon to Saudi Arabia for Desert Sentry with the Air Defense Artillery (1992) and again with the 3rd Armored Cavalry to Bosnia (2000). Dr. Patrin developed an innovative Soldier Readiness Program (SRP) pre-deployment risk analysis program addressing family member as well as soldier medical readiness issues and was instrumental in writing the Army’s strategic business plan for population health-based clinical optimization while at the Medical Command in San Antonio, TX (2000-2002). More recently, he developed and co-produced a DoD video program series for children undergoing deployment separation and reintegration stress called “Mr. Poe and Friends Discuss Family Reunion After Deployment” and “Military Youth Coping with Separation: When Family Members Deploy.” Former Commander of the California Medical Detachment (CMD) and Presidio of Monterey Army Health Clinic (POMAHC), he aggressively revamped delivery of healthcare services in support of students and permanent party Service Members and their families at the Defense Language Institute (DLI) and Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and provided initial planning guidance for a proposed landmark DoD-VA Outpatient Clinic in Monterey at old Fort Ord.  COL Patrin, a graduate of the the Army-Baylor Healthcare Administration Master’s Program, transitioned to the Joint Task Force in the Capital Medical Region (JTF CapMed) as the Branch Chief of Healthcare Business Operations, leading development of the Joint integrated healthcare delivery business plan for the Department of Defense (DoD), starting with the merger of Walter Reed Army Medical Center with the Bethesda National Navy Medical Center. COL Patrin is currently the Special Projects Officer for the Northern Regional Medical Command-Army implementing patient-family centered healthcare in Army Clinics and is on the MEDCOM and TMA Working Groups to write Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Guidelines and Training. He is a sought after speaker on parenting education, child abuse prevention, school learning and behavior problems, and healthcare administration and optimization.
