Dr. Tomecki graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy (UIC-COP) and completed a Specialized Residency in Community Pharmacy Practice. Post residency, while retaining a faculty appointment, she practiced in the community setting focusing on the development and implementation of disease state management programs, including various immunization initiatives. Dr. Tomecki then transitioned into the role of a Clinical Assistant Professor and was the Coordinator of Academic Programs and the Immunization Training Program at UIC-COP. During this time, she also became Faculty for the American Pharmacists Association’s (APhA) Immunization Certificate Program, training community pharmacists across the country. As a result of her work in community practice, she has been recognized by APhA, AACP, NACDS, and awarded the UIC Rising Star Award. Dr. Tomecki was also awarded the UIC WOW Award for co-coordinating the first pharmacist led immunization clinics at UIC for more than 750 state employees and retirees within a 48 hour period. These clinics continue to be successful today. She also dedicated much of her time to doing outreach to multicultural senior centers and communities throughout the Chicago land area, providing information on various health-related topics and promoting the profession in both the English and Polish languages.Currently, Dr. Tomecki is the Director of Practice Development and Research within the Professional Affairs Department of APhA. Her primary areas of work and interest include medication therapy management (MTM) and the Medical Home, with emphasis on the delivery of pharmacist-provided medication therapy management in patient-centered medical home settings and collaborative opportunities with various health disciplines. Dr. Tomecki is also involved in Immunizations, Accreditation of Community Pharmacy Practice Residency Programs, Health Care Reform, and various APhA Academy practitioner and scientist research projects and initiatives. One particular accomplishment Dr. Tomecki proudly shares is the work of the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management Medical Home Work Group. The Work Group, led by and comprised of pharmacists engaged in various medical home models, identified and released key findings regarding the establishment and integration of pharmacists into successful medical home practices.Over the years, Dr. Tomecki has been involved with the PCPCC in various capacities. She is currently a member of the Education and Training Task Force and is the past Chair the Faculty Development subgroup. Dr. Tomecki is also a former member of the Medication Management Task Force. During her service to the Task Force, she actively contributed to the PCPCC Integrating Comprehensive Medication Management to Optimize Patient Outcomes Resource Guide. Today she remains an active member of the newly formed Medication Management Special Interest Group.
