Liz Fowler, Jill Hummel, Hal Lawrence, and Adrienne White-Faines Join PCPCC Board of Directors

JULY 23, 2013 - (Washington, DC) - PCPCC has announced four new members will join its Board of Directors, including Elizabeth J. Fowler, VP of Global Health Policy, Johnson & Johnson; Jill Hummel, Vice President of Payment Innovation, WellPoint, Inc.; Hal C. Lawrence, Executive Vice President, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; and Adrienne White-Faines, Executive Director, American Osteopathic Association.
 
"We are excited to welcome these new directors to the board, especially during this exciting and critical time to advance primary care and the patient-centered medical home," said PCPCC's Board Chairman, David K. Nace, MD. "Each of these individuals brings a wealth of knowledge and a wide range of expertise, including public policy, health reform, care delivery innovations, and payment reform; and we welcome their unique perspectives to the PCPCC board."

Elizabeth J. Fowler, PhD, JD, VP, Global Health Policy, Johnson & Johnson: Ms. Fowler joined Johnson & Johnson from the White House, where she served as Special Assistant to the President for Healthcare and Economic Policy at the National Economic Council. She joined NEC after serving as Deputy Director for Policy of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (OCIIO) at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the new agency tasked with implementing the insurance market reforms included in the Affordable Care Act (ACA). During the health reform debate, Ms. Fowler served as Chief Health Counsel and Senior Counsel to the Chair to Senate Finance Committee Chairman, Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), where she played a critical role in developing the Senate version of health reform. She also played a key role in the 2003 Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act (MMA).
 
Jill Hummel, JD, VP, Payment Innovation, WellPoint, Inc.: Ms. Hummel is accountable for developing WellPoint’s provider payment and delivery models that reward and support improvements in health care quality, patient safety, health outcomes, health status and access while reducing the unnecessary cost associated with today’s fragmented health care system. In this role, Ms. Hummel has lead the expansion of WellPoint’s patient centered, value based, provider arrangements which now cover over 22, 500 physicians including 14,500  primary care providers and 52 accountable care organizations and benefit more than 1.75 million members.  Prior to her current role, Ms. Hummel served as the Vice President, Provider Engagement & Contracting, for WellPoint’s Northeast Markets. She also served as Vice President for Hospital Network Management for UnitedHealth Networks and, prior to that, as the Chief Operating Officer of UnitedHealthcare of the Midwest, Inc.
 
Hal C. Lawrence, III, MD, Executive Vice President, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists: As Executive Vice President of the 57,000-member organization, Dr. Lawrence oversees the day-to-day operations of The College, and with his executive team, provides leadership to more than 200 staff. Prior to his current position, he was The College’s Vice President for Practice Activities. Following residency training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Dr. Lawrence joined a private practice in Asheville, North Carolina. In January 1991, he rejoined the University of North Carolina faculty and worked with the Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville to establish an ACGME-approved ob-gyn residency training program, where he served as chair until coming to The College.

Adrienne White-Faines, MPA, Executive Director, American Osteopathic Association: Ms. White-Faines became AOA's Executive Director in July 2013, and for the past 10 years, White-Faines served as vice president of health initiatives and advocacy at the American Cancer Society (ACS), Illinois Division, where she was accountable for cancer research, education, advocacy, and patient service programs. Prior to employment at ACS, she served as chief operating officer at Chicago-based Renwal Emergency Medical Services, a health care management consulting firm for hospitals and physicians, and at Chicago’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital. She also worked as a health strategist with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, and as a practice administrator for a large physician group practice in Whittier, Calif.
