Multi-stakeholder National Primary Care Coalition Announces New President & CEO

The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative has tapped Ann Greiner, former Vice President at the National Quality Forum, to lead the organization at a critical time in U.S. health policy

WASHINGTON, DC —The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative (The Collaborative), one of the largest primary care advocacy organizations in the country, has announced the appointment of Ann Greiner as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. At a critical time in U.S. health policy, Ann will direct The Collaborative’s policy agenda, working across a diverse stakeholder group to advance an effective, efficient and equitable health care system built on a strong foundation of primary care and the patient-centered medical home (PCMH). As CEO, she will also lead the overall organizational strategy, manage a high-functioning internal staff, and foster strategic partnerships across the nation's health care sectors.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am proud to welcome Ann as our new President and CEO,” said Jill Hummel, JD, Board Chair of The Collaborative and President and General Manager of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Connecticut. “She brings decades of experience and a wealth of knowledge in the areas of public policy, communications, strategic partnerships, and payment reform in connection with health care delivery, quality and primary care. Ann has what it takes to further our advocacy efforts designed to ensure that all Americans have access to high-performing primary care. We are thrilled to have her at the helm during this critical time.”

Greiner has dedicated her entire career to advancing the quality of U.S. health and health care. She has more than 20 years of experience, including senior-level policy, research, and communications roles at prestigious national not-for-profit organizations such as the National Quality Forum, the American Board of Internal Medicine, The Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine), andthe National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

Throughout her career, Greiner has demonstrated a passion and deep understanding of primary care, its critical importance to the foundation of the U.S. health care system, and the imperatives for fostering primary care that is high-performing, patient-centered, and that is delivered seamlessly by a multi-disciplinary team of health care professionals.

In her new role, Greiner will work with key contacts at the more than 70 executive member organizations that The Collaborative represents, as well as with health care leaders across the country representing a broad group of public and private organizations, including payers, providers, non-profits, leading corporations, and patient and consumer advocacy groups.

As The Collaborative works toward its mission of unifying and engaging diverse stakeholders to promote policies and share best practices that support growth of high-performing primary care, Greiner and her team will focus on key issues of health care delivery reform, payment reform, and patient engagement, to drive health system transformation.

“I cannot tell you how excited I am about this new chapter for the Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative and for the entire primary care movement” Hummel said. “Now more than ever we need a powerful, multi-stakeholder coalition like ours to boldly advocate for advanced primary care, and Ann is the perfect person to lead the charge. Together we not only can, but we will, make a significant impact.”
