The new PCPCC guide Medicare Reimbursement for Depression Screening in Adults will also be discussed.Jennifer Bowdoin, MS, is Senior Associate, Project Management, at the Rhode Island Quality Institute. In this role, she manages the practice transformation, care transitions, and telehealth integration projects of the Rhode Island Beacon Community Program, a 3-year, $15.9 million federally funded initiative to support the transformation of Rhode Island primary care practices into patient-centered medical homes through health information technology support and to develop the state’s ability to improve the quality and efficiency of the health care system through foundational capabilities in quality and utilization reporting. Prior to joining the Rhode Island Quality Institute, Ms. Bowdoin was the Project Manager for the Rhode Island Chronic Care Sustainability Initiative, the state’s all-payer demonstration of the patient-centered medical home, as well as an instructor of public health courses at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a health care consultant for nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Ms. Bowdoin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges, holds a Master’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Rhode Island, and is a doctoral candidate in Public Health at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research interests include the impact of the patient-centered medical home model of care on adults with serious mental illness, Medicaid managed care for adults with disabilities, long-term care for the elderly, and predictive modeling for adults with disabilities.As one of the founders and the current CEO of Allied Pediatrics of New York, PLLC, Gary Mirkin, MD, FAAP, is a recognized leader in the physician community. Allied Pediatrics, which was formed approximately five years ago with approximately 30 physicians, now serves 150,000 patients and includes almost 100 physicians with 24 offices throughout Long Island, Queens, Westchester and Rockland counties. In addition to being the largest pediatric group in the country, Allied Pediatrics is recognized by the NCQA as a patient centered medical home. Under Dr. Mirkin’s leadership, Allied Pediatrics has been recognized for its efforts in promoting wellness initiatives such as breastfeeding, weight loss and nutrition as well as pediatric mental health screening. In particular, his emphasis on early diagnosis of mental health issues through adolescent screening has helped countless young people and teens with depression and other mental health challenges. Through the TeenScreen, Dr. Mirkin has identified possible mental health disorders in teens early, including thoughts of suicide, before problems worsen.
