Additional hours as required. TRAVEL: 20 –30 days per year RESPONSIBILITIES:Provides analysis and education to the AAFP, AAFP's state chapters and other AAFP components on state and federal legislative and regulatory issues (e.g., Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program and health reform implementation) affecting family medicine in the state capitols. Facilitates the exchange of information among the state chapters regarding best practices in advocating for family medicine in the state capitols. Takes a leadership role among medical organizations to promote family medicine to state government officials. Supervises the state government relations analyst.Other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS:This position requires a college degree (graduate degree preferred) in a discipline directly related to this job or equivalent work experience and at least six years of directly related work experience. Must have strong health policy background, preferably in state government relations. Must excel in public speaking to outside organizations and/or Academy related groups. Must have strong health policy analytical skills and knowledge of political process at both the state and federal levels. Must have the ability to multi-task, adhere to quick turn around deadlines and possess excellent writing skills. Must have the ability to travel and have the physical stamina to work long hours.
