Speaker Bios:
Christine Bechtel , MPS, Advisor, National Partnership for Women & Families; President, Bechtel Health Advisory Group. Christine is an adviser with the National Partnership for Women & Families, where she where she oversees the organization's groundbreaking and multifaceted health policy work, managing projects funded by the nation's largest foundations, partnerships with key business consortia, and leading broad-based consumer coalitions that address issues ranging from health IT to patient-centered care to access. Bechtel was previously Vice President of the eHealth Initiative (eHI), a Washington DC-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of health care through information and information technology. As VP, Bechtel headed the organization’s membership, public policy and government relations work. In this role, she led numerous initiatives to achieve consensus across the multiple stakeholders in health care on how to accelerate the adoption and effective use of health IT in a way that is responsible, sustainable, and builds and maintains the public's trust. She holds a bachelor's degree in politics and public policy from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland and a master's degree in political management from George Washington University.
Erin Mackay , MPH, Associate Director, Health Information Technology Programs. Erin is the associate director of health information technology programs at the National Partnership for Women & Families. Mackay's work is focused on managing and expanding the Consumer Partnership for eHealth (CPeH) coalition, as well as expanding outreach to consumer advocates at the state and local levels. Prior to joining the National Partnership, Mackay worked for the Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC). During her five years at HLC, she was responsible for monitoring implementation of delivery system and payment reform initiatives. She managed the creation and publication of the HLC Value Compendium, and helped to manage the HLC-run Confidentiality Coalition focused on health privacy policy. Mackay has undergraduate degrees in English literature and women and gender studies from the University of Virginia. She received a master’s degree in public health with a concentration in community health from George Mason University, where she graduated with honors.
