Implementing the Choosing Wisely Program – Practices Share their Lessons Learned
PCPCC Support and Alignment Network hosted an online discussion with practices who have implemented the ABIMF Choosing Wisely program on Jan 10, 2019 1:00 PM EST. The objectives of this webinar are the following:
• Understand the background and goals of the ABIM Foundation’s “Choosing Wisely” campaign
• Describe efforts by several primary care groups to implement Choosing Wisely
• Identify ways that Choosing Wisely can be helpful to SANs, PTNs, & PTN participants
• Identify future opportunities for leveraging Choosing Wisely concepts, tools to reduce harm and avoidable costs
Kellie currently serves as the Project Manager of Consumer and Community Engagement at Maine Quality Counts (QC), a regional health improvement collaborative for the Northern New England Practice Transformation Network initiative. Kellie has a particular interest in building partnerships between public health/community support organizations with traditional health systems. Kelly Rand is a Program Manager at the ABIM Foundation. In this role, she oversees activities related to grants and the Choosing Wisely Learning Network. Ms. Rand provides technical assistance outside the learning network as well and has offered her expertise to such projects as the advisory technical assistance committee for the Taking Action on Overuse project at Kaiser’s McColl Center for Healthcare Innovation, Vizient’s Shared Decision-Making Appropriate Use of Head and Back Imaging Tests Collaborative and American Society of Hospital Pharmacists’ 2018 Commission on Goals Opioid Council. She has presented on overuse at meeting such as IHI, the Families USA Health Action Conference and the ONC’s Annual Consumer Health IT Summit.

Dr. Letourneau is an experienced physician and public health advocate who brings extensive experience leading large-scale improvement initiatives and will serve as a contracted consultant for the project assisting with clinical direction, clinician engagement, and advancement of PFE and Choosing Wisely tools clinical practices. In her former role leading Maine Quality Counts, a regional health improvement collaborative, Dr. Letourneau led several multi-stakeholder improvement efforts, including the multi-payer Maine Patient Centered Medical Home Pilot, the Maine Aligning Forces for Quality (AF4Q) initiative, and the Northern New England Practice Transformation Network.

Physician Assistant and Clinic Manager, Kiowa District Healthcare
Melissa Stroh is a certified Physician Assistant and clinic manager at the Rural Health Clinic at Kiowa District Healthcare. Kiowa is an eight-bed Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic in a community about 1,000 people. She received her PA training from Wichita State University and her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from Kansas State University.
