Salvatore Volpe, MD, FAAP, FACP, CHCQM has over 25 years of primary care practice experience. He is one of the few physicians in the country to be successfully board certified in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and Health Care Quality and Management. Dr. Volpe is a national lecturer on diverse topics such as Consumer Health software, e-Prescribing, Electronic Health Records, Patient Centered Medical Home, Physician-Patient Communication, and Smartphones.
He is currently the Chief Medical Officer for both Staten Island Performing Provider System and PDR Network, LLC. He serves as Chairman for Staten Island Heart Society, is a member of the Board of Directors for New York eHealth Collaborative and Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company, and acts as a consultant for Point-of-Care Partners. Dr. Volpe serves on the medical editorial board of Medical Economics Magazine and is a member of the AMA Health Information Technology Advisory Panel. He continues to work at Oakwood Medical Consultants where he has been for nearly 27 years, where he coordinated the deployment of e-Prescribing and Electronic Health Record Systems.
Dr. Volpe has previously served as Chairman of the Health Information Technology Committee of the Medical Society of the State of New York, as Physician Liaison and Clinical Champion of the NYC Primary Care Information Project and as Co-Chairman of the Richmond County Medical Society HIT Committee. He served a two-year term as President of the New York Chapter of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and as the Coordinator of PCIP Clinical Advisory Committees and Clinical Advisory Committees of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Dr. Volpe also acted as the Regional Medical Director for Touchstone Health and the Associate Medical Director for Aetna US Healthcare.
In 2007, Dr. Volpe was the recipient of the IPRO Quality Award in recognition of his commitment to improving care for Medicare beneficiaries by creating a patient-focused environment within his practice and promoting the use of electronic health records and health information technology for quality improvement. In 2009, Dr. Volpe’s practice became the first solo practice in the state of NY to achieve Level 3 NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home Certification. In 2010, HIMSS recognized Dr. Volpe as the Chapter Leader of the Year for demonstrating significant leadership, extraordinary contributions to HIMSS Chapters, the Society, and a commitment to the HIT industry. In 2011, Dr. Volpe received the Geriatrician of the Year Award from SUNY DOWNSTATE Medical Center. In 2012, Dr. Volpe received the Medical Excellence Award for promoting Health Information Technology from the Staten Island Heart Society, and his practice became the first solo practice in the United States to achieve NCQA PCMH Level 3 2011 recognition.
