Marianne Hamilton Lopez is a senior manager for the Electronic Data Methods (EDM) Forum at AcademyHealth. In this role, she analyzes key technical and policy issues, conducts policy analyses, works on projects related to consumer and patient engagement in the research process, and participates in stakeholder interviews and a literature review focused on emerging issues for developing the comparative effectiveness research infrastructure with prospective electronic clinical data.
Prior to joining AcademyHealth, Ms. Hamilton Lopez worked as a graduate research assistant for the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, conducting literature reviews, writing issue briefs, and drafting fiscal notes and responses to proposed chronic disease-related legislation during the Maryland’s General Assembly Session.
Previously, she was the public health community advisor for the United States Cochrane Center, the U.S. branch of the Cochrane Coalition which implements systematic reviews of health care interventions. In that role, she managed a member coalition of health and consumer advocacy organizations committed to applying evidence-based health care to their work, to empowering consumers to make the best use of evidence-based health care, and to building better working relationships with the scientific community. She liaised regularly with the coalition’s steering committee and researchers and worked with a team to design and disperse a distance-education training tool geared for consumer advocates. Ms. Hamilton Lopez has held management positions in the federal government as the federal women’s program manager and American Indian/Alaska Native Employment Program manager at the National Institutes of Health and is a graduate of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Emerging Leaders Program.
Ms. Hamilton Lopez is a Ph.D. candidate in public policy at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, holds a master’s degree in public administration from The George Washington University, and a B.A. in politics and women’s studies from Earlham College.
